Just a thought…

January 15, 2007

I was just writing a comment for my ‘Mum, I’ve Decided to Follow Allah’ post and suddenly realized something. (Ok, I just suddenly didn’t realize it. This mighty truth dawned upon me some time back. Lol.)

I think that maybe all of us are born into some religion or the other but by the end of the day, it does become something we CHOOSE to follow or not follow. So maybe at the end of the day, we all are converts/reverts in a sense too since we only start following our religion when we make an educated choice whether we wish to follow the religion we were born into or not. No?

Somewhat related but perhaps not entirely:

Who’s the better Muslim: The one who stays true to the Deen throughout his life without placing himself in the mouth of temptation or the one who was a horrible Muslim or unbeliever for half his life but then shunned it (with all the difficulties associated with reversion) to continue life like the first Muslim?

I’d say they’re the same. No. 2 had the more visible mujahadah of coming out of the depths of ignorance, while the second one had the equivalent mujahadah of keeping himself from falling into the depths of ignorance. The relative individual difficulties would then be left to Allah (AWJ) to decide and reward accordingly.

But what you’re saying is that a person has to conciously decide that he/she’s a Muslim before being classified as one. Does that mean that the masses, those who don’t really think about religion, are condemned? The question is far more difficult, and far-reaching than it appears I think… how many of us have actually studied other religions and other ways of getting to God to say well enough that Islam is truly the perfect Deen? Is saying, “I just know that Islam is the truth because the Quran says so,” enough? Shouldn’t then that be enough for Christians who say the same about the bible, saying that they just have a wonderful feeling about their religion and can’t imagine it being false? Do they then go to Heaven? Or is everyone going to hell except theoligians.

It then just boils down to how important religion is in your life. Allah (AWJ) must be number 1 for you, now and forever, for you to be successful.

And well, like appley said, the rest is just hope and prayer and work to try and be among the “reverts”. Ameen.

    Wallahu Alam.
