Causes of Failure
December 2, 2006
I just read this analysis somewhere and found it very interesting. Apparently some Dr. Ahmed Arsalan wrote it.
“Islamophobia and Discrimination against Moslems is a reality. But Islamic fundamentalism and extremism [though rejected by majority of Moslems] are also a reality and are becoming stronger day by day.
What must be understood is that ordinary Moslem is being exploited by both sides, from Islamic Fundamentalism as well as from the Imperialist Crusaders, the Neo Con.
The Reason why “Islam and Moslems” are in this situation where they can be exploited:
1. There are more than 52 Moslem countries and not a single one has “Democracy”. Even
Turkey’s record is not good!!
2.In all 52 Moslem countries Laws exist that “Legally discriminate” against Minorities and Women [Western Islamophobia is not “Institutional” but Moslem’s Anti Semitism and Anti Ahmedism is “Institutional” and “Legal”]
3.”Freedom of expression” is restricted in almost all of these countries quoting “Islamic doctrines”
4. Islamic Clerik’s [scholars] attitude towards “Violence” is Ambivalent to say the least; the Al Azhar’s fatwa against Suicide Bombing never got popularity in traditional Islamic circles. In most cases the attitude towards this type of violence is that of “justification.” For example, if one says that innocent people died in train bomb in London, the response is: Islam does not allow this but look how many innocent died in
Iraq. This is a typical response you get from all so-called secular leaders like Musheraf to Mullah. This doesn’t condemn the “Religious Violence,” rather, it tries to justify it and innocent Moslems have to pay the price.
5. Failure of Modernity. The Project of Modernity in Islam failed, that of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Allama Eqbal , Jammal uddin Afghani. They failed to create Modern secular nation states with a “Islamic spirit.” The result is degeneration of “reformism” into Post modern Fundamentalism. The Links of Akhwan ul Moslimeen to Al Qaida [Jammat e Islami to Al Qaidia] are clear examples. 6. To quote the famous philosopher Dr Ziauddin Sader “failure to clarify the Doctrines of Islam that have promoted violence since the “Formative Period” of Islam, recently Pope Benedict also raised a similar point, though in a very “Inappropriate” manner.7. Development of Moslem Nationalism [Segregationist] view. As a response to Colonial subjugation Moslems every where developed “Moslem nationalism” and Segregationism. They insisted for a separate home land in India and wanted Jews out of
Palestine. This nationalism created a lot of misunderstandings and confusions every where. Allama Eqbal warned Moslems many times to avoid this behavior. Inn Taaza Khudaon mein bara sub se Watan he, Parahun he jo iss ka Wazhub ka Kafan he,
Muslim hein hum Watan he Sara Jahan Hamara
But Moslems every where chose to make small nation states that had violent conflicts with other neighbors and religions [Hindu/Moslem, India /Pakistan] Palestine Israel -Moslem Jew conflict]
All these conflicts were in reality conflicts of Colonialism as Moslems and Hindus had lived side by side for thousand years and Moslem-Jewish friendship is 2000 years old [Jews only found refuge in Moslem countries from Christian atrocities]”
